Remote thickness measurements and encoded B-scans on ferrous assets

Perform remote thickness measurements on ferrous pipes, tanks, vessels, and other assets with the TRIPOD - Tank Scanner. Its three-wheel magnetic drive system travels to the inspection location, where the remotely controlled actuated probe lift lowers a 0° probe to the surface to collect a thickness reading. The probe can then be raised for travel to the next location or remain coupled during straight-line travel to collect encoded B-scan data.

The actuated probe lift helps protect the probe while travelling over welds and surface obstructions. It can be configured for a range of 0° probes from different manufacturers—contact JIREH to discuss compatibility with your existing probe.

FEATURES

Steerable Rear Wheel

The rear steer wheel delivers responsive directional control and zero-radius turning.

High-Strength Magnetic Wheels

Maintain strong adhesion and traction on ferrous surfaces for controlled travel in horizontal, vertical, and inverted orientations.

Actuated Probe Lift

The TRIPOD - Corrosion Actuated Probe Lift raises and lowers the transducer to protect it during travel over welds and surface obstructions. It supports a range of 0° probes and flat or curved wear plates.

Steering and Drive Control

Control TRIPOD steering, drive speed, and connected components directly from the handheld controller. The unit includes haptic feedback, a full-colour display, joystick control, and an integrated D-pad for precise, intuitive operation.

Handle

Simplifies lifting and transport, then removes when additional clearance or a lower operating profile is required.

Industrial-Grade Protection

Dust-tight and watertight sealing protects the crawler from water, couplant, dust, and debris in demanding inspection environments.

Cable Management

Organizes and protects cables and irrigation hoses to reduce snagging during operation.

BATTERY-POWERED OPERATION

Add the optional battery kit for portable power at the inspection site. Rechargeable batteries power the crawler and connected accessories for extended periods without the weight, noise, or setup required by a generator. (Sold separately)

RECON CAMERA SYSTEM

Add the optional RECON camera to view the inspection area and remotely drive and steer the TRIPOD in real time. (Sold separately)

WARRANTY AND SUPPORT

The TRIPOD includes a limited three-year warranty, with spare parts and in-house repair services available for continued product support.

Component Identification

Base Crawler

The TRIPOD base crawler uses a three-wheel magnetic drive system for steering and movement. Its wheel arrangement maintains stable positioning on curved surfaces while supporting both longitudinal and circumferential travel.

System Controller

The System Controller supplies power to the TRIPOD and connects the crawler umbilical, encoder cable, and handheld controller. It is compatible with an optional battery kit (sold separately).

Handheld Controller

The Handheld Controller operates and configures the TRIPOD with dual joysticks, a colour touchscreen, haptic feedback, and a D-pad. The joysticks control driving and steering, while the touchscreen and D-pad provide access to system settings and scan information.

Auxiliary Cable

The Auxiliary Cable connects the Handheld Controller to the System Controller and carries control and communication signals between them.

J300 Encoder Cable

The J300 Encoder Cable is a waterproof, 5 m (16.4 ft) cable that transmits encoder data from the TERAX to the inspection instrument.

Cable Management

The Cable Management sleeve protects and organizes probe cables, irrigation tubing, and other lines connected to the TRIPOD. Dual zippers provide access to the enclosed cables and tubing.

Umbilical

The Umbilical connects the TRIPOD crawler to the System Controller and carries network and control signals between them. Its heavy-duty construction supports use in demanding inspection environments.
