The MICROBE combines precision encoding with uncomplicated probe holding to deliver an exceptional compact scanning experience. Each part of the scanner is designed to allow quick setup and ease of use, from the handle that routes cables and hoses to the brake that holds the scanner in place and the modular design that allows two probes to be configured in a myriad of ways. This small handheld weld scanner with a built-in encoder and magnetic wheels offers the flexibility to carry phased array or TOFD probes on ferrous surfaces.

Modular Design

The overwhelming flexibility of the MICROBE design allows for many scanning opportunities, even adapting to non-ferrous surfaces with a ROTIX conversion kit.


The removable MICROBE umbilical is the transmission point of the positional encoded signals to a user's instrument. Plug-in optional accessories for two-axis scans as well.

Brake System

A brake is provided to lock the scanner's location in a required position.


The magnetic wheels are coated with urethane to reduce the effects of foreign debris obstructing scanner motion. To further increase the system's flexibility, the wheels are stackable to increase the magnetic attraction when required.

Removable handle

The MICROBE has a removable handle allowing easy access to protected connections and providing cable management.

Built-in Encoder

A positional encoder is integrated into the body of the MICROBE. The encoder output is fully compatible with all standard instruments.

Probe Holders

The extremely adjustable slip joint probe holders accommodate most major types of phased array and TOFD wedges.

Phased Array or TOFD

This kit contains the appropriate probe holder arms to carry phased array or TOFD probes.

Component Identification


The MICROBE Cart contains the built-in positional encoder, while the removable handle allows for cable management and access to the umbilical.

Frame Bar

Various lengths of frame bars, to which the probe holders and accessories mount, are available.

Slip Joint Probe Holder

The versatile slip joint probe holder carries the phased array or TOFD probe and wedges with seemingly endless adjustment possibilities.

Magnetic Wheels

The magnetic wheels maintain scanner contact with the inspection surface. Add additional magnetic wheels to double the magnetic attraction.


A brake prevents the MICROBE from unwanted rolling on a scan surface.


The vital umbilical housing provides a plug-in for optional Y-axis accessories. The umbilical also provides encoder signals to the user’s instrument and acts as cable management.
